Hi! It’s Kara, returning from a trip to Pensacola and Tallahassee, FL. During this trip, I got to visit service providers in Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties with Janis, an AmeriCorps* VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) who works the Speakers’ Bureau Project in those counties. The picture of me near the brick building is at the EscaRosa Coalition for the Homeless. After a couple days in Santa Rosa/ Escambia Counties, Janis and I went to Tallahassee to visit a couple more VISTAs to discuss the progress of our project and get advice. The murals seen in a couple photographs is The Shelter, an emergency shelter located in Tallahassee. Janis is seen in one picture, posing on the side of the building.

During this trip, I got the opportunity to spend the night at The Shelter. The black & white picture is of me signing the intake forms with Princess, an AmeriCorps* VISTA working the Speakers’ Bureau Project in Tallahassee. Below is a narrative I wrote, based on the night I spent at The Shelter.

Enjoy!
